De Montfort University Show Support for Leicester’s Business Community

Following on from its amazing success earlier in the year, nominations are now open for the Leicester Mercury Business Awards 2018! Shining a spotlight on Leicester’s business success, the awards offer a chance for people from the region’s business community to come together for a night of celebration and acknowledgment. Several local businesses show their support for the awards as sponsors and as one of the city’s biggest universities, De Montfort University have recently come on board as headline sponsors.

With thousands of students coming through their doors each year, De Montfort University has a dedicated business school who contribute to Leicester’s business community every year. Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean at De Montfort’s Faculty of Business & Law, Professor Dana Brown, said why they chose to get involved with the awards:

“De Montfort University’s Faculty of Business and Law is focused on every aspect of business. From helping students at the beginning of their careers, to helping professionals develop and by working with businesses locally, regionally and internationally using our research to help them grow and develop. The Leicester Mercury Business Awards 2018 are a chance to celebrate the many success stories of Leicestershire’s businesses and entrepreneurs and we are delighted to be a champion for their work.”

Professor Brown continued: “Leicester and Leicestershire have an enviable reputation in the region for the diversity of our businesses, for our ability to adapt quickly to challenges and anticipate and plan for the future. You only have to look at the calibre of the businesses we have in Leicestershire to see that this year’s awards are going to be a tough job to judge!”

Local business success can have a big impact on not just the business community, but the region as a whole, and Dana explained why it is important that the university supports events such as the awards.

She said: “I think one thing which sets Leicestershire apart from other regional economies is our support network. Throughout this year’s Leicester Business Festival we saw businesses cheering each other on, supporting each other and working together to secure new deals to benefit the city and county. The Leicester Mercury Business Awards 2018 give us all a chance to recognise and applaud the achievements of businesses of all shapes and sizes. As a university at the heart of our community, it feels right for DMU to be part of these celebrations.”

On Thursday 12th April 2018, nominated finalists, category sponsors and guests from Leicester’s business community will gather at the Maher Centre in Leicester for the black-tie ceremony which will see finalists compete across 14 categories for the chance to be awarded with one of the coveted awards.

As well as offering a platform to recognise business success, the evening also offers a vital fundraising opportunity, with money being raised for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People. The charity supports children and their families who are suffering from life-threatening and life-limiting conditions.
