Music plays a big part in creating the atmosphere for shops. The right music can enhance your customers experience, and boost your employees productivity and moral. Music company PPL PRS Ltd  is a company that was formed when the UK’s two music licensing bodies joined forces to form a new venture, to make obtaining a music licence more straightforward.

They have been announced as sponsor of the ‘Retail Business of the Year’ award. Recognising online stores, boutique shops and High-Street favourites, the ‘Retail Business of the Year’ award will be given to the company that has best reflected their business excellence in the last 12 months.

As category sponsors, it will be the responsibility of PPL PRS to decide on the category’s final shortlist and eventual PPLwinner. PPL PRS plans to launch its new music licensing service, TheMusicLicence, in the coming months, to ensure businesses and organisations can play music legally. Ade Potts, Commercial Director, at PPL PRS, said that this was one of the reasons behind the company’s decision to sponsor this particular category.

He said: “We understand that music can play a role in retail environments, it can be as much a part of a business’ identity as its name or décor. As well as helping to positively influence staff morale to increase productivity, it also has the potential to help to improve both customer experience and satisfaction.”

He continued: “Retail businesses are important customers of ours and we understand how challenging it can be not only to survive, but to thrive within the retail sector. This is why we work closely with retailers both locally and nationally and support the value music can bring to business environments. From building their reputation to enhancing customer experience, music could potentially help to play a part in benefitting businesses within the retail sector.”

With so many different retail businesses in the region, competition is high for this award.

Winning an award such as this one can really help boost the profile of a business and Ade spoke about what PPL PRS hope to do to contribute to the region’s business community. He said: “With the support and recognition of its parent companies, PPL PRS are here to work with businesses and the local music and creative industries, as well as be involved with the regional business community. As a new employer within Leicester we’re able to provide employment opportunities and contribute to the local economy. We’re looking forward to meeting local businesses and being based in the heart of a vibrant, creative city is a fantastic opportunity for us to meet with other businesses.”

With judges now getting ready to begin their deliberations ahead of the ceremony on 12 April, finalists will be hoping they will be lucky enough to be taking one of the 14 awards home.
