De Montfort University (DMU) has once again demonstrated its support for the annual Leicester Mercury Business Awards in the biggest way possible by becoming Headline Sponsors.
DMU has been a key player in raising the awards’ profile since the event’s inauguration. And, it has watched as the awards have grown and developed in the local area.
On Thursday 11 April 2019, the awards ceremony will take place at the Maher Centre, and welcome a fresh bunch of finalists all hoping for success.
Professor Dana Brown, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise)/Dean, Faculty Business of Law at De Montfort University, was on-hand to explain their ongoing sponsorship:
“DMU has been a part of the Leicester Mercury Business Awards since the beginning. They are a chance to celebrate some of the incredible businesses who work with us and meet new contacts, not to mention an excellent networking opportunity.
“Sponsorship also allows DMU to give back to businesses, to demonstrate our pride in Leicestershire’s diverse businesses and in particular, to celebrate those companies at the heart of their communities.”
The university has been part of the business community since its inception in 1870, when it started out as a place to teach the artistic and technical skills needed for Leicester’s trades.
Nearly 150 years later, and that connection remains. Through their research and development work, DMU has links with start-ups and entrepreneurs and as a champion for Leicester itself.
Despite their longevity in the region, and position in the Complete University Guide’s League Table Ranking, DMU’s commitment to supporting other businesses and establishments has by no means fallen to the wayside.
Their involvement with local initiatives, such as the awards, is a statement in itself that shows they have a dedication to recognising the achievements of others around them, something Professor Brown was keen to highlight the importance of:
“Leicestershire’s businesses have much to be proud of. Awards celebrate and champion the talent, innovation and creativity that they demonstrate every day.
“This is a great time to be in business in Leicester. The city has a new-found sense of pride about itself; it has been named in studies as one of the best places in the country to do business, it is a natural home for the UK’s creative economy and tech start-ups.”
